Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem said Sunday his Lebanese resistance movement would not surrender or lay down its weapons in response to Israeli threats despite mounting pressure to disarm.
"This threat will not make us accept surrender," Qassem said in a televised speech to thousands of his supporters in the southern suburbs of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold, during the Muslim religious commemoration of Ashura.
The Lebanese government under pressure from Zionist regime and the Western government, most notably the United States and France have called on the resistance group to disarm and lay down its arms.
This is while Hezbollah argues that the Lebanese politicians have opted for silence towards the repeated aggression by the Zionist regime on Lebanese territorial integrity and sovereignty after the Hezbollah and the Zionist entity's ceasefire last year.
"We will continue to defend because we believe that liberation is a duty, even if it takes time and requires many sacrifices. The Zionist enemy continues its aggression and occupies five districts. We will never surrender to this aggression," the Hezbollah leader vowed in his Ashura televised speech on Sunday.
He called on the Zionist regime of Israel to abide by the ceasefire, saying "What Israel is not committed to is implementing the first stage of the agreement; that is, withdrawing, stopping the aggressions and [reconnaissance] flights, releasing the prisoners, and starting reconstruction. As much as we are concerned, the equation that America and Israel want to impose, namely, 'either kill or surrender,' is not acceptable; what is important to us is our rights. We are ready to be martyred or to win; and we are ready for both choices."
As regard the recent Israeli imposed war on Iran, the Hezbollah leader said that Iran did not allow the Israeli regime to achieve its goals. "[Iran's Leader] Ayatollah Khamenei has always supported us with his courage, faith, backing and guidance. We also salute the Iranian nation, whose unity and steadfastness prevented Israel from achieving its goals."
